People aren’t ignoring you—they’re just busy.

Quick reminder that PEOPLE ARE BUSY with their own lives: In the past 4 days, I finally heard back from 2 separate collaborators that I hadn’t heard from in 2 weeks. One moved to a new country, and the other had to put down a pet :(

I never assumed either was “ghosting” me, that I’d done something to piss them off.

Many people assume that we’re being ignored when we don’t get a response to our emails, texts, calls, etc. on our job hunt or other career-building efforts. We’ve done something to offend the other party, and they’re spiting us.

But in reality, that’s just not the case. People are busy!

This assumption is especially easy to fall victim to when we lack confidence in our relationships, our communication approach, our self-worth.

So just keep in mind that PEOPLE ARE BUSY. We all have our own lives, our own stories and struggles and complications.

Unless you have reason to believe you upset someone, don’t assume anything! Just keep following up gently and consistently.

You’ll hear back from the serious ones. 😉
