Ancient as the earth itself

I also wrote a song to express my experience that day:

About this piece

In January 2020, I experienced my first-ever outdoor climb at Weavers Needle with my buddy Drew. I’d been climbing indoors for 7 months, but this 500-foot superexposed column of stone in the Superstition Wilderness made me rethink what courage is. 😅 It’s not a hard climb, but for my first time rappelling, I was shitting bricks.

Weaver’s Needle image is shot by Drew on that day, and the sunset (which is actually a sunrise) was captured by my wife Elizabeth at her family’s achingly beautiful Walloon Lake cabin.

Can you spot the tiny detail, though? Perhaps it’s someone you know.
