I started working on this side project during the 2016 election when I got frustrated with how difficult it is to understand the citizen initiatives we’re supposed to vote on! Here’s my original napkin sketch (bottom left) alongside other sketches and notes for “City Suggestions,“ “feedback.to” and “ChangeMachine” which were all ideas in a similar vein:
My desire was to see each section of the propositions broken down into “plain English” (much like how BallotReady breaks it down into “why vote yes/no”) and that’s what I did:
I’ve been “building in public” ever since, and you can see the website for yourself below. My long-term vision is to allow citizens to both understand and collaboratively influence new initiatives they wish to see implemented, hence “Wiki” Prop. 😊
