Modern society became a bit obsessed with the concept of “productivity,” which I’ve found can place too much focus on the end products (literally), by making it difficult to recognize progress as productive.
In wisdom like Atomic Habits, we discover the idea that systems for accomplishing things are more important than goals themselves, and techniques like habit stacking.
And from many teachers, we learn that rest is productive, as is allowing the low-and-slow cooking to occur in our subconscious minds.
Personally, I make the most progress towards my goals and dreams when I’m emphasizing any kind of progress as a celebratory achievement. Yes, I may have fallen short of all my tasks today, but I made meaningful progress nevertheless. I stayed focused. I played. I learned. I honed.
And I may have been “less productive” today than I’d planned, but I know I’m working toward my next big leap forward.
That is all for today 😋
Thanks to David for the interesting convo while climbing today! (First time since Nov ’21 😬)
