I’ve been a part of dozens of online communities: content marketers, growth marketers, language learners, Notioners, career-crashers, startup founders, online geniuses, remote workers, freelancers…
Very few provide me real value in the form of human connections, expanding my network.
Two things are true of the groups of humans which I most value:
- Every person is high quality.
- Most people in the group know each other, too.
When Mat & I decided to officially shut down GigLoft, it prompted me to ask the members of our community, “How will we stay in touch?”
Through those conversations, we determined that we want to feel part of something tight-knit that grows slowly and intentionally. This will be more valuable to all members over time.
As opposed to launching another community for “CONTENT MARKETERS” or “NO-CODERS” and then trying to invite everyone who wants to join, we can instead build a community of high-quality people one member at a time.
One member at a time.
Personal introductions to at least 2 new people.
Each person invites someone that just “fits.” Not for the same reason others are invited, but for a specific reason.
